Here is some incredibly disappointing news for Android fans worldwide. JBQ a.k.a Jean-Baptiste Quèru, the project lead for AOSP (Android Open Source Project) in Google is quitting from his position. The reason behind this is the lack of the factory images for the new Nexus 7. The Nexus 4 factory images also took their own sweet time to appear on Google’s developer website, but they did after quite a bit of internet media frenzy....

The feature is officially called “Factory Reset otection,” according to Re/code, lawmakers are celebrating it as a key piece of the smartphone “kill switch” measures they’ve been pushing for. Android users can already lock, wipe or locate a lost phone remotely using Android Device Manager. But with no protection against unwanted factory resets, a thief could still wipe the phone—provided no lock screen security measure was in place—to make it untraceable....

Not even a fortnight since Microsoft’s Project Natal aka Kinect launch, hackers & developers have managed to break the Kinect code and forge an open source driver. Now, the real experimentation have begun. The latest concept being demoed on YouTube, comes from Oliver Kreylos has developed a C++ implementation of Kinect that allows for 3D reconstruction of a room using a single Kinect system. By combining the color and the depth image captured by the Microsoft Kinect, one can project the color image back out into space and create a “holographic” representation of the persons or objects that were captured....

We have seen the water and dust resistance of the Samsung Galaxy S5 tested on several occasions. But Samsung has decided to remind us of this feature yet again by posting a new commercial highlighting its usefulness. In the ad, we see the phone going through the usual pace of water spills and being drenched in flour with no impact on its usability whatsoever. You can expect to find this ad airing on your television sets in the coming days as Samsung pushes to showcase all the essential features of its new flagship to a wide range of users....

It is no secret that Qualcomm is working furiously on releasing the first 64-bit chips for Android, especially after Apple beat them to it by nearly a year. The company had earlier announced that we should see the first 64-bit powered Android devices arrive later this year, and if the latest leaked roadmap are to be believed, its plans seems to be moving according to schedule. The roadmap was leaked by a reputed Chinese analyst on Weibo....

The Galaxy Note 5 is another stellar example of how good Samsung is at making these particularly large phones. Reports are coming in from HTC One Google Play Edition owners that they’ve begun receiving a 320 megabyte over the air update to Android 4.4 KitKat. While there are no screenshots to confirm this, the source is Android Central, and the guys even have a link to Google’s servers where the update is being hosted. Own a One, but don’t own a Google Play Edition One? Don’t worry, there will probably be a custom ROM on the internet within 24 hours waiting for you to download, but I suggest you remain patient, because HTC has already said that they plan on pushing out KitKat to the Sense-packed One in late January....

HTC has just announced the One M9, and in due course the four biggest wireless carriers in the United States have confirmed they will be launching the device. Unfortunately, while HTC has announced it will release the One M9 beginning in mid-March, the carriers aren’t being all that straightforward just yet. For example, Sprint has confirmed it will launch the newest flagship from HTC, but only says it will launch it in “early spring....

The malware had initially spread via third party apps and is said to have affected more than 10 million phones, rooting thousands of devices every day and generating money to the tunes of $300,000 every month. Security researchers have unearthed that the new variant of the malware is seeking refuge in more than 20 Android apps on the Google Play Store and the apps are already downloaded by over 12 Million....

Going by what we saw in the fifth edition of the popular cricket league, the IPL 6 Live streaming is going to get bigger and better. Times Internet still holds the official rights to live stream this edition of IPL on the internet. Last year, in partnership with Google’s YouTube, they had reported combined pageviews of 113 million page views, a 55% increase from 72 million pageviews in IPL 4....

According to the report, Google’s employees are using an in-house program called Android Lockbox, which works with Google Mobile Services, to see “sensitive data collected by Android to selectively monitor how users interact with non-Google apps,” including how often the apps are opened or how long they’re being used for. The information is collected through Google Mobile Services, a collection of apps that include Google, Chrome, Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Maps....

Sprint today announced that it will start carrying the LG G4 on its network from June 5 in the United States with pre-orders beginning from today itself. The handset will be available on the Now network for $199 on a two-year contract, or for $599.99 if you don’t want to get into a contract. Additionally, “well-qualified” buyers can get the G4 on Sprint’s Easy Pay plan that will require them to pay $25 per month for 24 months and does not require any down payment from them....
